Reflection about Simulation and Modelling through ICT

Simulation is the exploration of existing models. The use of high quality multimedia simulation enabling students to interact, reflect and develop their knowledge and understanding. Simulation is providing a concrete visual experience of the abstract investigate life processes which are far too lengthy, study complex interactions, simulate manufacturing processes, difficult, dangerous or costly experiments. It helps students to become more understand what they learned during the class.
Modelling is the expression of one’s ideas by constructing one’s own models. Modelling conjures up many different pictures in science teaching and learning for example, a three-dimensional diagram of a water molecule, atomic models made from coloured sphere, the change in velocity of a moving car and so on. Modelling enables students to explore the effects of changing data and relationship of physical systems, thus helping students to understand the phenomena involved.

Overall, simulation and modelling contribute to develop new strategies for solving problems building models by creating new rules and also complete tasks of greater cognitive complexity. Students also can develop their higher order thinking skills and helps them to think out of box. Reflection and modelling are the best method to carry out in teaching and learning process because both of the methods are very good in order to develop students’ knowledge and understanding.

Reflection about ICT

Information and communication technology (ICT) is one of the subjects that I have learned for this semester. This subject is about the use of technology in teaching and learning process. From what I have learned for the whole semester including problem based learning (PBL), smart note book and how to use interactive white board (IWB), the use of data logging in conducting the experiment, teaching e-portfolio, simulation and modeling and so many interesting things. All of these things are very important in teaching and learning process and as a future teacher I need to know. The use of ICT in teaching and learning process can reduce the teacher’s work. This is because the technology nowadays is very sophisticated and can make the teaching process become more interesting compare to the traditional method. As a science student, ICT give so many advantages in learning process. For example, when apply the ICT facilities in conducting an experiment, we no need to plot the graph and table of result by ourselves because it is already plotted to us. So, the experiment can be done in a short time. Other than that, use of technology in learning can help students to get the accurate data. For me, the use of ICT in teaching and learning process can help the students to become more interested in study.

Reflection about IWB

This is my first time learning interactive white board or in short form of IWB. During the demonstration, I was so excited because this is my first experience seeing a white board screen which can be touched using only fingertip just like touchscreen hand phone or iPad or something like that. It needs a special software in order for us to use the IWB which is smart notebook software. We have to install it in our own computer and we need to use it every time we have to present the assignment. The first time exploring it make me quite stress because it is very fussy for me who is not used it before this. But, it is very interesting and very suitable for learning especially for primary school students. This is because we can create a very interesting activity to be carried out during the lesson in the class. Other than that, it is able to make a better understanding for the students during teaching and and learning process. It is also can help teacher to not to waste the time the and not just use the method of 'chalk and talk' and of course the students will get bored in a short time. However, not all school have this IWB due to its cost that is very high. At least I already had an experience on how to use IWB eventhough I am not sure whether I'll be able to use it when I become a teacher in the future.

My Teaching Philosophy

I have to make sure that I am ready to face the students that I know they have their own character.
I must be committed with my profession  as a teacher.
I have to be very patient and always be ready to face the challenges in teaching profession.
Be responsible and do not give up.
Learn to be a punctual person.
